Maybe the protocol of the chrome configurator has changed since then but it did not work for me. My solution was to simply connect the DTR pin from the serial connection. I could not connect to the module because it had no firmware in it most probably. And I could not flash a firmware in it because DTR is probably connected to the reset pin of the ATMEGA chip in the module and is needed to start flashing a new firmware image. When I connected DTR, I was able to flash the module and now I can connect directly. If I disconnect DTR, I am not able to connect to the module anymore. The DTR signal is used by the chrome configurator to reset the module at the right time at which it will send its start message (My understanding). If this can help someone else in the future…
