New Foamy
The latest addition to the stable, a little second hand foamy. Has a 25amp speedy, 3 micro servos, 1 5 channel mini receiver, a 1200mAH LiPO battery and an outrunner motor. All up weight about 475 grams.
Yet to fly. Need to program the radio, and wait for some calm weather.
Shepparton Scale Aerobatics Comp
One of my favourite pics taken the other day at Shepparton Scale Aerobatics comp. Other highlights included a massive Cessna and Vampire jet.
My visit was brief on Sunday morning for an hour or so before lunch. Then the rain rolled in and I headed off to Bendigo.
Dodgy reversing y lead
This little lead almost cost me the Segull Edge-540.
I was in the middle of an inverted pass when all of a sudden, the Edge pitched down towards the ground for half a second. It was more than just a wind gust and I assumed a radio glitch. The day had been long with a number of flights so I assumed it was time to retire and charge up the batteries.
Being labour day long weekend, I was back out at the field the next day (Monday). With batteries charged, I headed back up. After less than a minute in the air, I was getting glitches again. The glitches seemed to be only on the elevator but definitely more frequent. After a calling an "emergency" landing and getting it back on the ground safely, a bit of wire twiddling revealed the problem.
Tugging on the Y-Lead caused one of the two elevator servos to go 45° up elevator. As you can see from the photo above, vibration and the leads moving around in the fuse have caused the solder joint to break. The upside is; 1) Got the plane back in one piece and 2) Nailed down the problem to a specific component rather than just putting it down to "radio glitches".
PDARCS Scale Aerobatics Comp
Matt and Pete Bailey both flew the Extra in two rounds at the Scale Aerobatics comp held at P&DARCS today.

Corsair – Latest Project
Finally the OS 70 Fourstroke I've had lying around since the demise of the Giles 202 has a new home!
An ebay pickup, I just need to put the engine and radio gear in and I'll be good to go.
The previous owner had an OS50 in it and had a whopping chunk of lead up front. The 70FS might help a little more with some nose weight but I think I'll still have some lead up front.
Wheel spats
One turned 90° in flight to vertical. I thought landing might be messy as the spat would catch, and cartwheel the plane. In the end it rotated all the way around and became a skid on the grass 🙂
Eagletree Airspeed sensor
Well, the undercarriage is definitely not a good spot for the airspeed monitor. Tried it on the ground at full throttle and it measured 165km/h.
Altimeter appears accurate. I had three flights and deliberately flew higher each time registering 114, 124 and 144 meters.
Eagletree Sensor Install
Pitot tube - definitely not the ideal place for it to get clean air but for this "trial" run I wasn't willing to cut open the wing.
edge 540 – 6 flights strong
The Edge is going nicely. Still haven't really wrung it around the sky. The time will come. For now I'm happy with those nice big loops.
Today I tested out my new Sigma wide angle lens. Does the prop look in proportion?
