Connecting the BMP085 Baro to the MultiWiicopter Paris V4

BMP085 on the Paris V4 board

The BMP085 Barometric Pressure sensor is mounted on the bottom side of the Paris V4 board. Orientation of the BMP085 is not important but vibration is always an enemy so I used double sided foam tape to mount it. There are four points from the BMP085 that must be connected, VCC, GND, SDA and SCL. In this case they're connected to the LV I2C pads on the bottom side of board to the same points that the BMA180 Acceleromter is connected to on the top

Yellow wire is SCL. White wire is SDA. Red VCC and Black GND.

  1. Hi there,

Is it the baro realy important to the multiwiicopter? What are the other sensors that we can put on this board? And, are they going to give a more stable flight?

    Thanks in advance.

  2. The baro is not necessary for stable flight, nor the bma180 acceleromter. The minimum requirement is only the 3 axis gyro.

  3. The best way to get a list of compatible sensors is to download the MultiWii software (1.8.2 is the current version) from http://bit.ly/p7x7wm and go through the code which shows all the compatible sensors.

  4. I thought the Baro and BMA180 were important to aquire a realy good stable flight.
Then, why did you put this sensors on the board? Is it a real diference with and without them?
    Thanks again.

The BMP085 baro sensor is not necessary for good stable flight. The baro sensor to me is a bit of a novelty attempt at altitude hold which in my experiments so far shows altitude vary +- 5 meters as it slowly senses and adjusts.

The BMA180, while technically not necessary for stable flight, enables the auto-level ability where at the flick of a switch on your transmitter, the multirotor should level off to a pre-calibrated staright and level hover. As I said, not strictly required but good to have once it's setup and calibrated properly.

The only minimum requirement is really the 3 axis gyro and from videos I've seen on youtube, other people are getting quite good stable flight using just the 3 axis gyro. The message that comes through from those guys is that it's really important to have balanced props and motors to get a vibration free frame. Once you've got that sorted, move on to adding more sensors.

Myself, I'm still working on balancing and trimming for stable hands off flight.
